A lot of guys out there popped the question over the holidays and it’s wedding show season. That’s the perfect recipe for booked wedding vendors.

Some brides are taking the advice that it’s best to pencil in those appointments and get their wedding on vendors’ books right away—if you’ve got your wedding date and your venue down it is not too early to book with all of your other wedding vendors. In fact, the sooner the better. The last thing you’d want to hear from your favorite makeup artist is that your date is all filled up!

Hopefully today I can answer some of the questions that are on a lot of brides’ minds when it comes to booking your professional wedding makeup artist. And, as always, if you have any more questions or if you’re ready to book your date then definitely send me an email at info@ashleebivins.com

Q: I know I can email or call to book you for my wedding makeup, but I have a wedding planner who’s planning the whole wedding schedule. What do I do?

A: Let your wedding planner / coordinator get in touch with me so I can be perfectly placed in your busy day’s events!

Q: How soon before my wedding do you want to do my makeup?

A: I average 30 minutes per lady.

Example: If the ceremony is at 5:00 p.m. and if you’re doing a first glance at around 2:30 or 3:00 with your groom before the wedding for pictures (which is a totally awesome idea; you should definitely consider it!), then I would want to make sure I’m completely done with your makeup by 2:00. I want to give you plenty of stress-free time to pack up and head to the venue where you’re getting your photos shot. Let’s say if it’s a wedding party of you and 5 ladies in line for pro makeup then I’d need to start makeup by 10:30 or 11:00 a.m.

Q: Where will you apply my makeup?

A: All trials can be done at my studio. But for the actual wedding day makeup we’ll do that at your “getting ready” location.

Q: Do I need to bring anything / any makeup of my own?

A: If you like, bring along any pictures of makeup that you fancy. But if you’ve done a trial session then just bring your fresh face!

Q: How about a test or trial session? To see how my wedding makeup will look before the actual day?

A: Fantastic idea! I recommend it. That way you’ll know exactly how you’ll look on your big day—one less thing to think about! I suggest coinciding the trial makeup session with your engagement photo shoot. Or even better, for your bridal photo shoot. Then we can see what you like, love, or maybe want to change up so you’ll be 100% for your wedding day. You can even book a trial session with me any day of the week. Maybe a Friday so you can go out for a “night on the town” with the girls or something fun!

Basically if you’re engaged, if you have your wedding date set, and if you’d like for me, Ashlee Bivins, to be your pro makeup stylist, then please get a hold of me soon. Wedding planning season is in high gear so you don’t want to wait too long and find that your date is all booked up.

On December 3rd (Saturday), I’m teaming up with the brilliant hair stylist, Heather Valentine, to give you professional hair and makeup advice. Well I’m here to help you out! I’m offering Friday night only How-To Makeup classes. I’ll go over lots of super helpful makeup tips and styles and we’ll even go through your personal cosmetic bag so we can find out what you’re doing right…and not-so-right.

I’ll share info about some of my favorite products, and will take a look at what you already use and prefer and give you personal (and professional) advice on how to make yourself look (and feel) like the beautiful lady you are!

Classes last from 1-3 hours, depending on the group size (classes available for groups of 6-15 ladies). It’s $25 each, but the fee is waived for the hostess (and a free gift is added!) if at least 10 ladies attend. So round up all the girls and let’s get together for a fun makeup application class!

First, meet Michelle Lamb. She is seriously one of my favorite people! She’s hilarious and entertaining without even trying, and when she’s with her husband, Greg, they are a cute couple that is so obviously in love. Just one glance at them and you can tell that they adore each other.

On Michelle’s big day we had fun getting her ready at Iidentity Salon over on Brookside. They did an amazing job on her hair! Some great wedding vendors who were involved in making Michelle’s and Greg’s wedding perfect were Artworks Tulsa Photography, Route 66 Photobooth, The French Bouquet, Tulsa Weddings and Design, and The Silo Event Center.

And then Avery Atkins-Warren…she is one of my biggest cheerleaders and I think she’s just a doll! Almost immediately following her wedding she rated me on WeddingWire.com and referred me and several of her vendors to tons of brides. (Thank you, Avery. I really appreciate it! Avery and her bridal party got ready in the bridal suite at Post Oak Lodge and watched girly flicks one after the other. At one point I actually had to turn one of the bridesmaids away from the TV because she was tearing up over “My Best Friend’s Wedding!”

There were so many top-notch wedding vendors for this wedding, including: Andrea Murphy Photography, Ann’s Bakery, Paper 8, Pen Weddings, Tulsa Weddings and Design, Zach Downing Entertainment, and The French Bouquet.

Last, but certainly not least, is Courtney Clymer. I actually did Courtney’s makeup for 4 different shoots before the wedding, including a trial session. (I’ll blog more about trial sessions in the future—they’re a great way to preview your bridal makeup before your big day!) She was tons of fun. I just loved working with her and really enjoyed her bridal party, too.

I’m going to kick off my Summer Faves list in style…studded hot pink high heel style! Brittany Stokes was a blast! She is such a glam girl and totally rocked her wedding look.

I did the bridal makeup for Brittany’s brother’s new wife, Megan Loeber, a few months back so I had the pleasure of doing Brittany’s, and her beautiful mom’s, makeup then. They are such an adorable and sweet family. I was excited when Brittany called shortly after her sister’s wedding to book me for her own wedding.

Meet Rachel and Rob. They’re good friends of mine so of course they made my Summer 2011 Favorites List! They’re an awesome, fun-loving and easy-breezy couple. Rachel is gorgeous and Rob is such a sweetheart. It was wonderful to be a part of their wedding (and engagement shoot) and make Rachel feel like a total Princess.

Their wedding was at the Skelly Lodge and it was a beautiful day—a nice 70 degrees and a bit overcast, which unfortunately made it a bit troublesome in the lighting department. But no biggie! We decided to set up on the upstairs patio to apply the makeup and it was so much fun. Everything turned out beautifully!

This summer I did the wedding makeup for bride Barbie and all her best girls. My first thought, when Barbie told me her name, was, “Oh how awesome! I’m doing Barbie’s wedding makeup!” (What makeup artist doesn’t dream of being able to say, “I did Barbie’s makeup?” A girl’s dream, of course!) But when Barbie said she was marrying Ken I couldn’t believe it. How cute was that?

Barbie’s makeup was beautiful and thank goodness the products I use are waterproof (always high-end waterproof foundation, blush, mascara, eyeliner, and eyelash glue, to name a few). It rained on Barbie and Ken’s outdoor wedding at Tulsa’s Historical Society, and while makeup is makeup (it won’t last forever, obviously), Barbie and all her girls still looked fabulous post-rain! Nothing could rain on Barbie and Ken’s parade. It was, well, Barbie and Ken’s wedding, after all!

And since I’m still so excited about being able to say, “Yup, I’m a makeup artist who did Barbie and Ken’s wedding!” I came across THIS adorable, and rather ingenious, blog post featuring a…Barbie and Ken wedding! Just take a look for yourself. It’s such a cute idea; I just had to snag a photo and share on my Blog!

Barbie & Ken Doll Inspired Shoot Photographed By BdG Photography and Featured on Style Unveiled: Inspiration for Brides and Grooms

Boudoir is all about glamour, drama, intimacy, and beauty. These photos are very personal and up-close, often with a lot of shots taken of you looking down, up, and to the side. You want to be sure that your makeup for these intimate photos is applied perfectly and evenly, and will show up brilliantly in each and every photo. Professional makeup is key!

For foundation I use Airbrush. It’s High Definition Makeup that photographs amazingly and is perfect for Boudoir photos. For the eye lashes I highly recommend faux eye lashes. Some brides love these, and I think for wedding makeup it can be a beautiful extra, but for Boudoir Photos you should definitely go for them! They are absolutely sexy and really emphasize the drama of your Boudoir photos. Boudoir is all about the sexy, vivacious and intimate you. You want your makeup (just like your hair and lingerie) to be exciting and dramatic! And that means faux eye lashes.

While Bridal makeup is elegant and classy, Boudoir is a bit more flirty; it’s colorful, dramatic and it really pops. I like to recommend wing eyeliner and fun lip colors– sometimes shades you wouldn’t usually go for. I definitely recommend you go for pink- it’s super girly and flirty. And though some girls can get a little panicky when it comes to red lipstick, it can be really fun and sassy for Boudoir.
